  • Illinois who have legal right the caregiver or the family

A co-worker's sister was a caretaker for a man who died at the age of 65. The man had owned car, boat, house, and building. He also had $ 200,000 bank account. The man did not have a will or a trust. The man had stop all comunication with family and ralatives for 15 to 20 years. However, when the family and relatives discover that their grandfather had die, the want to legaly claim his asset. Who should have legal claim of the dead man assets the caregiver or the family and relatives?

If the man had a will, then his will should specific who should receive his assets. If he did not have a will, then his family will inherit under the state's intestacy statutues (which specify who inherits when there is no will). A caretaker has no legal claim to any of his assets unless she is left them in a will.
I am not able to respond to private messages. Thanks!
