  • Need to know.... Michigan

I need to know if I a friend of mine can move out at 16. She is having family problems, and needs to get away for reasons that I cannot share. She would move in with me. We were wondering if she could leave at 16 and not get charged with running away, or my family getting charged with kidnapping. Please tell us, we are sooo desperate and in need of clarification. Thank you.

No. If your friend is in a situation where she is being abused she can go to CPS for help.

You and your parents can petition the courts for guardianship of the 16 year old. At 16 the courts will listen to her and if the cause is a just one she will be granted the opportunity to live outside of her regular home
