  • Question about teenage pregnancy Michigan

Tonight I got a phone call I could have done without. It seems my son before he graduated high school this year got a girl pregnant. There is no chance for them to get together, she doesnt want to be with him, and the same with him.
Some questions I need help with. I told him he will help support the child.

He is only 17 she is 18 they were that age when she became pregnant. She went out with him cause he was feeling down, his mother my wife died in Oct 2005 from cancer.. I told him that is no excuse.

Should he have a paternity check to ensure he is the father?

They both say they only went out one time.

I feel like I am in a daze... I am just getting over my wifes death now this shows up.. he says he wants nothing to do with the baby, and she says the same she wants nothing to do with him.

The baby is due in December he will be 18 by then and he is in the service.

Get the paternity test done as soon as the baby is born.

Your son is on the hook for support, of course. But he really should try to be a father.

Kids need a dad. The circumstances of the conception should not be held against the child.

      Thank you

Thank you for the information, I to agree he should be a father. The problem is they both are immature... She is now a lesbian... but wants the baby, and he is dating someone else. I told him he has to pay support for the child. But I still want to know as a parent can I charge her since he was 17 and she was 18 for rape? If it was the other way around she would be able to charge him I think?

        Not for statutory rape.

The age of consent in MI is 16, and they were within a year of each other anyway.

What the woman's and your son's situation is today means nothing to the courts.

That child is your son's responsibility until someone else is granted full custody.
