  • separated for 20 years Maryland

My "husband" and I had a separation agreement drawn up by a Maryland lawyer 20 years ago but never filed the final paperwork after the 12 months was up. Can we go to the courthouse and finalize this ourselves? A lawyer wants $750 to do it for us, which we can't afford to pay. Is there a lot involved with the filing? I live in PA, would it be easier to do it here?

    Thank-you

After 20 years, it is probable that you'll have to file a whole new case. Just to make sure, contact the court clerk's office where the original papers were filed to see if the case is still able to be finalized.
