  • DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIM; HELP! South Carolina

Cops responded to a Domestic Violence dispute between husband and wife of ten years. One 7year old was in the house at the time of the arguement. A gun was present in the home but not shot. The husband was arrested and charged with CDVHAN, Kidnapping, and Unlawful Conduct towards a child. Shortly afterwords, the mother was told that DSS would be involved to make sure the child was safe in the home by requesting Psych. evaluations of both mother and child- no problem. However, instead the mother is contacted by the Department of Social Services and being told that the child must undergo a forensic and medical exam, (including examination of private parts), blood work and everything- is this NORMAL, standard procedure for Domestic Violence WITNESSes? If SO, how come the MOTHER, the actual VICTIM of the violence, is not being forced to undergo medical examination? Please help! Very confused!
