  • Pennsylvania Father Custody/Visitation

I had a 4 year son born out of marriage with a woman with history of mental illness .....at this moment she is in the midst of a full blown schizophrenic episode ....my son ,is safe (thank god ) living with a very stable relative of hers ,,,,
    my problems include
a false protection from abuse order filled against me last me (which I did not fight)
we have never went to court for custody (only signed parental acknowledgment)
the family members caring for my child is not cooperative the idea of me exercising my visitation rights

    my fears
based on her condition & my understanding of our law my x can veiw my child as a benefit producing cash cow in so far as welfare ,housing ,food stamps etc & take that child from his now stable enivroment which is well within her rights at the moment

I want what's best for my kid but the fear that his mentally ill mom can pull a crazy stunt is paralyzing

    Your best option

Is to file for Paternity and Custody. Even if you aren't granted custody, you will then be in line for scheduled vistation and have more right should anything occur in the future. Right now, you are considered a legal stranger.
