  • Workers comp needed in Michigan?

I have my own small company in Michigan that does automotive repair. I dont generate enough money on my own. I want to do work for another company as an independant contractor at there facility. What do I have to do to make this legal. Do I need workers comp so the other owner does not get in trouble if I get hurt. Do I need a disability policy?
I was told you cant collect workmans comp on yourself?

    Thanks

Whether you are required to carry WC as an IC is a matter of state law. You would not be covered under the other employer's policy.

Whether you have some sort of disability insurance is a matter of personal choice. If you don't have an employer to pay for an extended leave for medical reasons, it may make financial sense to get a policy, but that is something only you can decide.
I post with the full knowledge and support of my employer, though the opinions rendered are my own and not necessarily representative of their position. In other words, I'm a free agent.
