If on WC, company lays off employees, what happens? California

If my spouse is currently out on workers comp, and the company ends up laying off their staff, how will this affect my spouse? Will he continue to receive WC comp benefits (i.e. disability checks)?

Benefit payments under WC would continue until he released by his physician. However, being on WC does not protect him from layoff if he would have been laid off anyway.
