If an employee reports an injury (questionable or not) but demands to see the company doctor and leaves early, is the employer required to pay them for the full day, even though they report back to work the next day on their regular shift with little or no restrictions?

If you sent them for the medical care, then yes, you do owe them for the time spent obtaining that care. If the need for care was not obvious and the employee opted to seek out treatment, it need not be paid (assuming this is a nonexempt employee). Some states require this day to be paid but yours is not one of them.I post with the full knowledge and support of my employer, though the opinions rendered are my own and not necessarily representative of their position. In other words, I'm a free agent.
