  • Minimum hrs a day for exempts?

I'm an HR Mgr in Maryland, and I'm drafting a new exempt time policy. Myself, the other HR Mgr, and several members of the staff all thought there was a regulation stating that an exempt employee should be considered to have worked a full day if he or she worked more than 4 hours. There doesn't seem to be anything out there specifically stating this though, and I know that I have definitely taken sick or vacation for a day in which I worked 5 hrs before. Is this just company discretion?

    Thanks in advance!

In most states, it's company discretion. I believe the state of CA has some regulations on this, but that's the only state I know of that does, and even they are situation-specific.
The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.
