  • California Exempt employee taking personal time

I'm an exempt employee in California who's hours are from 8:30 to 5. I come in at 9:30a.m. on the days I drop my car off for service as the shop doesn't open until 9. I also have to leave earlier to get to the dealershop by 5:30p.m. My employer offers paid vacation time but no personal time and expects its employees to conduct all personal business - including doctor's appointments - during non-working hours, but clearly this is not always possible. Does the law grant any leeway to employees?

    Personal Time Off

No, your time at work can be scheduled by your employer with a few exceptions such as those related to some child care situations (but not all), school functions and those needed for medical care relative to a disability.
