  • CA - 5 minute grace period?

    Hi,

Is there any law in CA that states an employee has a 5 minute grace period after their shift starts? It sounds unreasonable to me for there to be such a thing. Or is it employer discretion?

No, there is not. If you're required to be at work at 7am and you're not there by that time, you're late.

Your employer may have some "rounding-off" payroll practices which means that if you're less than X minutes late, they still may pay you from the start of the hour but that has nothing to do with your attendance or the expectation that you are at work on time.
