  • Michigan Mistakes

I currently work for a video store in michigan. My employer has made frequent practice of making us pay for mistakes (even if they dont cost him money) and cash drawer shortages as well. I recently looked it up and realized that this was illegal (at least the deduction without a choice). We never agreed to it or signed anything, and he does it under the table without documentation. I was just wondering if the same law also applies to cash drawer shortages. There's no exception right? Are there any other laws that apply specifically to cash registers?

It is extremely unlikely that MI's regulations allow an employer to require employees to make up cash drawer shortages. I suggest you contact MI's Department of Labor, discuss this with them, and file a complaint.
