  • delaying paycheck as punishment

In Illinois an employer's stated payday is Friday but always pays 'early' on Thursday. Should an employee not work on Friday, for any reason including sickness, then it is considered 'abuse' and that employee will not be allowed to be paid the next Thursday with everyone else but instead will have to wait until Friday. Can an employer use delaying a paycheck as a means of discipline?

I can't think of any laws that would prohibit an employer from holding an employee's check until their regular pay day, even as a form of discipline. That's a stupid way to go about it IMHO, but it's legal.
