  • State is *%$*%#*#% Student!?!?!?

Hello, I work for the State of California as a student assistant-engineering and archetectual sciences,

Aside from only being paid once a month, which is against state law, I have still not been paid for last months time!

Today is the 18th of August and I have not recieved compensation for all of July.

What can I do??? All my bills are now late, due last week, and I have no money, what are my options??? Am I entitled to any compensation for it being this late????

Please help a broke *** student!

Aside from only being paid once a month, which is against state law, That may not be the case. The federal government and the States often exempt themselves from the employment laws they enact for the private sector. I don't know what the requirement is for pay frequency for public sector employees in CA.

I have still not been paid for last months time! Today is the 18th of August and I have not recieved compensation for all of July. The quickest way to resolve this is to ask your supervisor why you haven't been paid and when you will be. If you can't get an answer, then contact the area manager and/or the payroll department. If that doesn't work, then contact CA's Department of Labor and file a complaint.

Um, unless I am very much mistaken, today is the 18th of July...
The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.

Yeah, wrong date, sorry. I meant July.

I have talked to the supervisor and he has talked to the supervisors of the people responsible for sending the check.

It was supposed to be here on the 10th. But the person who was to send it out was on vacation and just left it on her desk. After finally contacting them on the 13th they said it will be sent out right away. It is supposed to be in the mail. I currently work 2 hours away from where they are sending it from and it is still not here, today on the 19th of July.

I guess I have to buck up and just wait.

Have you reported this to the state DOL?

Sounds like they are in violation of your contract by not paying you on the usual and agreed-upon date.

In any event, I'd handle it gracefully. . Sounds like an honest mistake, and you want to have ongoing dealings with these people.
