  • cut in pay California

should prior warning be given before you receive your pay check and then notice your hourly wage has been cut.......... and is there a maximum percentage that could be reduced by?

  • #2
Unless an employee has an employment contract guaranteeing a certain rate of pay, an employer is free to reduce it going forward so long as the reduction doesn't bring the employee below minimum wage. You cannot reduce an employee's wages on hours that have already been worked. You can only reduce wages on a going forward basis after providing the employee with notice.

It seems you are a non-exempt hourly employee.

If your pay has been reduced on hrs. already worked, you can report it to the Ca. DLSE.
