  • CA - If the office closes early do employees still get paid. California

We are a California company that had our Denver office close early on Friday. Since it was the company’s decision to close early that day do we still have to pay our employees for a full days work even if they only logged in 4.5 hours? This would be for both exempt and non exempt employees.

    Thank you

In Colorado employers are not required by Colorado Wage Law to provide a certain amount of hours of work.

For example, if an hourly employee shows up as scheduled for an 8-hr. shift, only works for one hour and is then immediately sent home as directed by the employer, the employee is only owed for the one hour of actual work.

The non-exempt employees only have to be paid for the time they actually worked.

The exempt employees have to be paid for the entire day.
The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.
