  • Wrongful termination Utah

I need some info on utah labor laws for those with diabetes. I was fired this morning due to the fact that i had to miss a day of work due to a hospital visit yesterday morning. I furnished a note from the doctor stating where i was and why as well as called the company upon arrival at the ER. I know this is a right to work state, but i also know that type 1 diabetes is considered a disability and there are laws to protect us from just such an incident though i dont know what they are. Is there anything legally that can be done about this?

If you were terminated because you are a diabetic, that is illegal.

If you were terminated because you did not follow appropriate call in procedures, that is legal.

Outside of FMLA, a doctor's note has no force in law.
The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.
