I am an on-call bartender for a event space in Manhattan. We are a high-volume, cash only environment. It's been brought to my attention that if our cash is short at the end of an event, we're responsible for paying the difference before leaving. Regardless of the amount (I owed $1) isn't this illegal? I brought it up with my manager and he said he didn't think so: I can't find anything online speaking specifically to this situation. I know that it's illegal to make a waitress pay the check on a walk-out, but I don't work in a restaurant per se. ANY information would be GREATLY appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Amanda
