  • on call 24/7 when not working my reg 40, unpaid Minnesota

I work as a program coordinator in a group home. When I walk out the door I am expected to be on call constantly with no pay. Even if I go shopping in a town 30 miles away, have a few drinks, etc, then I have to find a back up program coordinator. So basically if I do anything after my regular worked 40 hrs at the group home, i am on unpaid call and if they would call me to come in and i was out shopping, they could actually fire me. So can they leagally do that (have me on call 24/7 )when Im not actually at work and not pay me? I have worked for this company 14 yrs and that has always been their policy, even though I don't like it or always abide by it.
