  • Cutting hours for being sick...? Kansas

I called in sick about ten minutes before my shift (I literally threw up outside of my car, unexpectedly). The day manager picked up the phone and let the store coach/HR manager know. The HR manager gets on the phone and proceeds to tell me my job is on the line because it's three days from Christmas and that if my hours get cut next week, that this situation is why. I'm not a bad employee. I've had the flu once this year and this would technically be my second call in to work for being sick.

Can my manager legally cut my hours for being sick the previous week?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, it's legal unless you have a binding employment contract or CBA to the contrary or you are being discriminated against due to a reason prohibited by law (ie age, religion, gender).

Agree. Unfortunately, unfair doesn't always mean illegal.
