  • Shutdown Vacation Illinois

I work at a factory that provides a minimum of 2 weeks of vacation per year. In the summer we shut down for one week and everyone is forced to take 40 hours of vacation time whether they want to or not. I would personally prefer not to be paid and save my vacation time. Should I be allowed to do so, or are they in the right here?

No, you're not in the right here. The employer decides when you can/cannot take your paid vacation.
I am not able to respond to private messages. Thanks!

Agree, your employer is in the right unless you have a binding employment contract or CBA to the contrary.
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. Leo Buscaglia
