  • Waiter break exemption? Illinois

I am a waiter in Illinois. I frequently work nine hour shifts with no break allowed. Not even a five minute one let alone a 20 minute lunch break. We are allowed to eat on shift if it's slow enough. Are these circumstances allowed? Can I do anything to remedy the situation?

You can report the violation to the IL DOL.
The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.
