  • Partial Unemployment - does it exist? Colorado

I've heard the myth about people filing for unemployment when their hours at work were cut in half. My neighbor recently got his hours cut from 40 down to 20 and he asked me if I know anything about getting this help. Technically he is still employed, but now he will only be getting half his pay.

So, does partial unemployment exist, and if so, what are the requirements for filing for it?

Thanks for any and all responses as I would love to help him and his family........

Many states will approve UI benefits for a significant reduction in hours. He needs to file a claim for benefits - it certainly can't hurt.

Such good news to give him. Thank you Betty3! Should I tell him to backdate the request to when they initially did this? Do you know if he would be able to do this online or does he have to go through a CSR at the unemployment office?

Here is a link with a phone # to call to ask questions about Co. UI benefits & to file a claim.

There is also info as to how to file a claim on line.
