  • Playing Favorites? California California

    Hi all,

Is there a written statute/law/regulation that prohibits supervisors from "playing favorites?" Specifically, if work that is given out that is significant (ie, not menial) is continually given to the same person - which allows that person tangible benefits in the office (more substantive projects to place on their annual review).

In the military (I'm ex-navy) we would call this fraternization - management and the rank-and-file are getting too close. I would have hoped that the union leadership would have noticed this by now - but they seem to turn a blind eye.

    Thanks

Federal law does not prohibit the type of behavior you describe. CA is not one of my states so someone else can discuss that aspect.

It seems you are in a union. Is there anything in your CBA as to how work should be assigned?

        CBA - unsure

        Betty,
Thanks for the hint/tip. To be perfectly honest, I've read about half of the CBA. I'll dig it up again and start, but I don't believe there was anything in their about work assignments.

Maybe you could try talking to your union rep?
