  • Questionable split shift? California

Hi there, new here, never held a job of the type I do now. BUT I was told that if I do not have an 8 hour break between my SCHEDULED shifts, then it is considered a split shift, and I would be entitled to OT after 8 hours of work, and DT after 12 hours... I'm a valet btw...

My schedule at one point was 7p-1a(Mon), then to come in the next morning at 7a-3:30p(Tues). Now I was supposed to have that FOLLOWING day(Wed) off, but I was called in to work 5p-12a which I was kicked loose at 11:30p, but came in the next morning(Thurs) at 7a.

How would I go about finding out what I am entitled to for working these hours? I'm still young and learning about labor laws, but I also don't want to say something and possibly be fired for it, so I am trying to get the facts before hand.

Thanks in advance for any information provided!
