  • can they make me give up my check??

i work in nevada and my boss said i made $300 worth of long distance phone calls but i didnt have to dial a 1 and i was told the code we used to call was not long distance.
anyway they told me i have to sign a paper saying they can keep part of my check or they will fire me, and them keep my check anyway. i have worked for the company for over 4 years and this is what i get? is that legal?

They very likely cannot make you pay for the calls (Patty?) but they can fire you.
The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.

If these were personal phone calls they very well may charge you for the cost of them. They could also terminate you for ringing up $300 in calls.

However, they may not deduct the amount from your paycheck without your written authorization.
