  • Splitting lunch break in half (California)

At the company I work for it was proposed that the early shift (6:00am - 3:00pm) take a 1/2 hour lunch from 9:00am - 9:30am and then take a second 1/2 hour lunch from 12:00pm - 12:30pm...instead of a one hour lunch from 11:00am - 12:00pm. Is this legal? Can they enforce this??

Yes, they can. California requires only a 30 minute lunch break. You are being given two lunch breaks. http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/FAQ_MealPeriods.htm
