  • California full to part time, vacation pay?

Curious what Califonia law is about this. Recently one of our full-time employees requested to go part-time. This person has been with us 3 years as full time and has utilized the benefits we offer. Now that this person is part-time do the benefits they used to have as full time still apply? Vacation specifically.

No. If you don't offer benefits to part-time employees, you don't have to continue offering benefits, including vacation, to this employee, just because she used to be full-time. Relative to vacation, you can either keep it on the books and let her use it, or pay it out. She just can't forfeit it.
