BTW, for the benefit of any readers to this thread, what Marketeer says applies in all 50 states, not just Virginia. While one or two states (not more than that) require SOME employers to pay SOME employees a premium if they work on a holiday, NO state requires an employer to pay employees for holidays if they do not work.

There are no federal or Virginia state laws requiring employers to offer any paid holidays. While many employers are giving their employees the Monday after Christmas off this year because Christmas falls on Sunday, there is no law that requires them to do so.

    question about holiday time

Just wondering if anyone knows about Virginia law requarding paid holidays. Christmas falls on a Sunday this year, and I am a salaried employee with (8) paid holidays including Christmas. I do not have to work on weekends and when I asked my employer if I would have off on the day after, her reply was, "well, you can take off, but I will not pay you". Why would I not still get 8 holiday hours???
