  • misuse of paid time off in Alabama

Exempt employees at our business are required to work 80 hours and 10 shifts per pay period. We are having paid time off deducted if we work less than the 10 shifts (i.e. 9) regardless of the amount of hours accrued during the pay period. For instance, we are docked 8 hours PTO despite having already accrued close to 100 hours for the pay period. Is this illegal or just bad form for employees?

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are saying that your employer charges you a day of PTO if you miss a regularly scheduled day of work? That is perfectly legal. The fact that you may have worked extra hours on other days is irrelevant; this would be true whether or not you were an exempt employee. The employer sets the hours and work rules, even for exempt employees.
I don't respond to Private Messages unless the moderator specifically refers you to me for that purpose. Thank you.
