  • 12 Hour Work Schedule

The organization I work for is gearing up to change our current work schedule from 8 hours a day to the 12 hour a day work schedule. I am located in South Carolina. What my question is, can they ask and require you to work up to 16 hours if there is someone out on vacation or sick leave etc..please all let me know your opinion on this. Thanks!

To my knowledge there is no law prohibiting it, so yes they can.
I don't respond to Private Messages unless the moderator specifically refers you to me for that purpose. Thank you.

There are to my knowledge only two states that limit the number of hours an employee can work in a week and South Carolina is not one of them.

Nor would a 16 hour day violate the law in even the two states in question unless it happened just about every day.
The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.
