Can the Dept of Homeland Security make me be "on call" 24/7 365 days year in case they want to ask me a question or talk to me about something?

I am supplied cellphone and pager (for use during workday I thought) and took vacation without them and will be disciplined for being out of touch when they called me in a different state, out of cell phone range, in a remote area with family and friends!

I am a "Customer Service" type person - non-critical to operation - Mon-Fri 8:00 AM -4:30 PM in Iowa State.

I swear this is all there is to this issue. What about sex? What about sleep? Restroom?

Yes, they can although it's rediculous to think there are times when you couldn't be available. My suggestion is to speak with your supervisor if your going to be out of a responding range for any length of time as to have a back-up if necessary.

Also, I'd ask what is considered an approprate length of time to contact the caller when a page or call is made since there are going to be times when your away from the cell or pager.
