Hello, I am a mechanic for a new car dealer in Kansas. As mechanics, we are paid by the job. Our employer has in the past and is planning on in the future requiring us to work on an occasional Saturday and perform free vehicle inspections on cars for no extra pay. This does not sound legal to me and if it is not what can I do about it. Thanks in advance....

Your employment relationship is blurry as a commission mechanic. This is a link to KS Dept of Labor Wage section
http://www.dol.ks.gov/ES/html/wfaq_DEE.html
You may need to contact them to report violation or make wage claims. It may be best to report anonymously if possible.
Q. Does an employer have to pay for all hours worked or services rendered?
