    several questions since i'm being let go after 30+years.1) is there any redress if the written severance offer is different from what i was told verbally? (they say it's to be consistent, and it is less than what was originally told me and involves paying for health insurance) 2) is it true there's no laws about this, and absent written policies, it's pretty much just what you can negotiate when you're let go? (company has been sold, many others are being let go too) 3) when you accept severance, what does that do do filing for unemployment? am i even eligible? 4)does it matter that i live in ct, but worked in ny? thanks!

    You're right in that there isn't any law specifying the amount of severance, as long as the reason for a different severance is based on a discriminatory factor. States have different rules regarding unemployment and severance but most count the severance as compensation and will prevent you from receiving unemployment until that severance is completed.
