  • Tardiness & the 1/4 hour

Considerations : Work hours are 9 am - 5 pm, employees complete their own timesheets, an Admin. Asst. keeps track of call in's, OT and tardiness. There is no company policy in place specifying tardiness, only that it can be documented. The company pays based on the quarter hour.

Question: Can an employer document and/or reprimand an employee for tardiness should the employee arrive between the minutes of 9:01 and 9:07? Or should an employee only be considered tardy after 9:08? If an employee arrives at 9:03 and the company pays that employee as if they arrived at 9 am....how would that technically be considered late?

    Thanks! -Kimberly

    Tardiness

The employer can define tardiness in whatever way that wish.
