  • exempt from giving breaks and lunch?

I live in Michigan and I work for a well known convienent store/gas station. I work 8 hours a day and am told that we do not get breaks or lunch because of the nature of the business, this makes them exempt from doing so. They also state that when we are not waiting on customers, that is our break time. When we are not waiting on customers, we are re-stocking supplies and sweeping or mopping the floor. Is this legal?

It is legal because Michigan doesn't require that an employer provide rest or meal periods.
