  • leaving work before shift is complete

When you become ill while at work , does the employer have the right to make you stay against your will in Ohio? My employer has set amounts of tardy's ( either being late to work or leaving early)and set amount of occurances that they will tollerate.I feel they are fair, however when we feel the need to leave early due to illness, we can't just say we are leaving , give the reason and go.It has to be approved or we are given a choice or staying or risk being terminated.I understand if it was just because we wanted to leave .But to make us stay and spread the virus we have and not be able to perform our duties correctly is just wrong I think.

    Forced to Stay

Your employer can require you to stay, as long as the issue isn't one of discrimination in violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act, or, in the case of a serious illness (in which case the Family Medical Leave Act can apply). It doesn't sound like that is the case in your situation.
