    I have a manager that posted a letter to all hourly employees stating that if they can not find a person to replace them in their shift it is no longer her responsibility to cover their shift and that they must report to work even if they are ill. Can she do this?

    Yes, minus a binding employment contract to the contrary. Many employers require the employee to find someone to cover their shift or come in.

    Of course, she can't physically drag you in if you don't find coverage but you can be disciplined up to & including termination for not coming in minus a binding employment contract to the contrary.

      It is becoming increasingly common for employees to be made responsible for finding their own coverage. So far no state has made it illegal. I am not anticipating seeing any state make it illegal in the near future.

      So unless you have, as Betty mentions, a legally binding and enforceable contract that specifically and in so many words states that you cannot be held responsible for finding coverage for a call out, you can be.
      The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.
