  • Withholding my paycheck Alabama

I worked at a water park gift shop and quit roughly two weeks ago. My last payday was yesterday. In the water park's manual it states that you must turn in everything issued to you at the beginning of your job to them in order to receive your final paycheck. These items are my uniform and the gift shop key. I left my shirt for the gift shop inside the gift shop and went to take it out yesterday, but it was gone. I worked with two other girls and both the other girl and I are certain that the other girl who worked there took them. Whether out of spite or not, I'm not sure. I tried to explain this to my former employers and all they have said is to keep trying to get a hold of the girl to get my shirts or to pay for them. If I cannot get my shirts or if I do not pay for them, they will not issue me my last paycheck. Is it legal to keep my paycheck until company property is returned? I'm only sixteen and I'm not really sure what they're legally able to do.

No, it is not. Alabama, however, has no wage and hour laws of their own.

Alabama follows federal regulations and has no separate state wage and hour laws. If you have a question for the federal U.S. Wage and Hour Board, you can contact them at 1-866-487-9243

Patty, did you mean Alabama, however, has *no* wage and hour laws of their own.
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. Leo Buscaglia
