    Sorry..not sure if this is the right spot for this thread but my question deals with COBRA eligibility.

    If a plant terminates their "plan" and all employees lose their coverage under the plan, does this meet one of the requirements for eligibility? And if not what about the employees that are currently on COBRA under this plan, do they lose their coverage under COBRA or does it continue?

    Just for clarification, the company did not close, they are still open. Just the plan is being terminated. Thanks.

    COBRA is the continuation of the existing plan. If the plan is cancelled, there is nothing to continue and thus no COBRA.

    If the employer offers other health plans in addition to this one, the employees on the cancelled plan would be given the opportunity to join one of the existing plans, as would any former employees currently on COBRA. If the employer does not offer any other plans, then employees and former employees alike would have to find their own insurance.

    COBRA cannot exist if the plan has been cancelled.
