  • Forced vacation day when the office closed Indiana

Hello, I am a salaried exempt employee who was recently docked pay on the friday after Thanksgiving because the office was closed. Traditionally the office is open this day but was closed this year due to most of the employees asking for the day off, to shop. I did not ask for this day off, but the office closed and I did not work. I was offered to use a vacation day if I desired to get paid for that day, retrospectively. I think this is a fine line, what do ya think? Thanks

The employer can require you to use a vacation day; if I had been them I would not have "offered", I just would have told you what I was going to do. They cannot dock you, however, regardless. They could now, however, pay you back for the day you were docked and charge it against your vacation and, again, if it were me, that is how I would correct the situation.
I don't respond to Private Messages unless the moderator specifically refers you to me for that purpose. Thank you.
