  • changes in work days New Jersey

I'm presently working in a mail company. We only operate on 3rd shift. Recently, I'm advised that I have to change my days to tue-sat. Due to the fact that we only operate on a 3rd shift, we always have mandatory overtime because we need to finish everything that came in that night so all the mails can get processed in the morning. Is this legal? Can they really hold me working 12 hours or more each day, although I'm compensated thru overtime, the point is, the hours are just way extended. We don't get a night differential rate? Is this ok?

They can legally change your hours, your shift, or the days of the week that you work unless you have a legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA that specifically says otherwise.

New Jersey is not one of the two states that limits how many hours an employee can work in a week/pay period. No state limits how many hours can be worked in a day.

No state requires a shift differential.
The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.
