    Unscheduled overtime in one week overtook the amount of PTO time needed to complete the work week, is there any rule regarding offsetting that scheduled PTO day in the same week?

    If you are exempt, the number of hours you work is irrelevant. If you took a full work day off, the employer is certainly free (and most employers will) charge you a full day of vacation (probably 8 hours).

      Yes I understand however, rather than charging PTO time for a day I was scheduled to take off, I had already worked 40 hours for the week by Thursday, so there was really no need to use PTO for the Friday. Is there any rule that states I had to use PTO when I had already exceeded the amount of hours for the week. That would make my timecard show 8 hours overtime that I would not be compensated for...

        There is no law that prohibits the employer from requiring you to use 8 hours of PTO for a day you take off, even if you have already worked 40 hours.

        40 hours has no more significance for an exempt employee than 17 hours, 62 hours or any other number of hours. There is no magic about 40 hours for exempt employees and the only significance it has to non-exempt employees is that this is where overtime starts.

        And if you are exempt, overtime is irrelevant.
