  • Vacation Pay - Massachusetts

    Here is the scenario/question....

Been employed for 10+ years, according to the company employee manual, 10 years of service earns 4 weeks of paid vacation time, you receive the 4 weeks to use at the time of the performance evaluation (a few months ago). Have used some of the time (20 hours) and just gave my 2 weeks notice. What is my employer required by law to payout to me for my vacation time (it is not "accrued", i.e. we don't get a few hours each month that add up to the 4 weeks, we get the 4 weeks and can use as we wish)?

Ma. employers must pay separating employees for *earned* but unused vacation. There is no similar requirement for sick leave.
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. Leo Buscaglia
