  • Boyfriend not getting breaks Ohio

My boyfriend currently works for (deleted( in Ohio. He's a cashier there and has been there for a year now. Usually when he goes in they work him 7 hours and he gets no break at all. The company policy apparently says you have to be working 7 and a half to get a 30 minute lunch but my question is how many hours do you have to work to get a 10-15 minute break? Are they allowed to not let him sit down for a few minutes when he's working 7 hours? They also get mad at him for wanting to use the bathroom and the store manager can never be reached since all he does is sit in his office all day and ignores everyone. He said he called HB services about this but they did nothing, he's also yelled at them about this and sat down for a few minutes anyway and they were going to write him up but when he mentioned the store manager they got quiet and didn't do anything. So can he do anything about this? Does anyone know what the law is for getting breaks and a lunch for Ohio?

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE*

Unless your boyfriend is a minor, Ohio law does not require that the employer provide breaks for him in the job that you described.

Agree, Ohio only requires breaks for minors (under age 18) & for some railroad workers. Sorry.
