  • system down!? Utah Utah

this is my first post here. be kind

So the system at my work goes down at least once a month. and it will sometimes go down for over an hour.

and since i work at a call center the phones still work but the computers dont.

so we are just telling everyone to call back. but today we closed at 6 and they went down at 5 and we all knew that they would not be back up before we left for the day

so why couldn't they just send us home. or can we just leave.

is there a certian amount of time before we can just leave with out any negative consiquences?

If your employer requires you to stay & just tell everyone to call back, that is what you do. You can't just leave at any time without your employer's permission computers down or not. You can be disciplined up to & including being fired for doing so.

No. Your employer could legally require each and every one of you to stay PAST 6pm, too - regardless of the status of the computers.

Of course, if they require you stay, that's "engaged to be waiting" and is compensable time.
I don't respond to Private Messages unless the moderator specifically refers you to me for that purpose. Thank you.

I agree, Patty. I was taking it that they were working while the computers were down by answering the phones.
