    my mothers employer has everyone working 8 hrs straight with no breaks of any kind given. in exchange the employer told her they only stay on the job 8 hrs!no 9 to 5 routine - his words! is this legal?

    Yes, it is. Neither Federal nor PA law requires an employer to provide any breaks of any kind for the adult employees of private employers.

    I'm not saying it's good management. I'm not saying I approve. I'm saying it's legal.
    The above answer, whatever it is, assumes that no legally binding and enforceable contract or CBA says otherwise. If it does, then the terms of the contract or CBA apply.
