    My son took 2 days off for my mother's, his grandmother's, funeral. The fast food chain he works for has issued a written warning and are threatening a suspension for missing these 2 days. Salaried management, maintenance and salaried clerical workers get 3 days with pay off for funerals. He took 2 days, without pay for his grandmother's funeral and they want to suspend him? Can they?

    The short answer is yes.

    Bereavement isn't part of labor law. Therefore, the terms are completely up to the employer.

    Not how I would treat my employees, but not everyone is me.
    Not everything that makes you mad, sad or uncomfortable is legally actionable.
