If I give my employer a 2 week notice, are they obligated to pay me for that time even if they chose not to keep me in their employ for that 2 week period?

Nope, they are not obligted to either allow you to work out the notice or pay you for that time if they do not. Many employers will, but it isn't required.
I post with the full knowledge and support of my employer, though the opinions rendered are my own and not necessarily representative of their position. In other words, I'm a free agent.

Both answers are actually correct. There is no labor law requirement that notice be paid if given. No labor law requirement pretty much takes federal and state DOL off the table as a possible remedy.

However, not all law is labor law. Court actions using non-labor law arguments sometimes succeed. However, each judge is pretty much an entire world onto themselves. They do not have to "buy" any particular argument. And a failed court action (even small claims court) involves costs.

A judge is a law student who grades his own papers.
